Venue: Kalyon Kültür
Kalyon Kültür brought art lovers in Istanbul together
with Kenan Işık’s exhibition, “Istanbul-Rome Beyond
Time,” at the historic Taş Konak. The exhibition, con-
sisting of a total of 42 works inspired by Istanbul and
Rome, will be open for free visits until October 13,
2024. Kalyon Kültür, which hosts all disciplines of
art, is now welcoming artist Kenan Işık, who proudly
represents our country with various mixed media ex-
hibitions opened in many different countries and cities
from Brussels to Vienna, and Hawaii to London, with
his exhibition “Istanbul-Rome Beyond Time.”
In the exhibition that opens its doors at the historical
Taş Konak, visitors will encounter 42 works, including
paintings reflected on canvas, as well as relief and ceramic applications. With the exhibition specially prepared for Kalyon Kültür,
Kenan Işık takes visitors on a journey between Istanbul and Rome. The exhibition, curated by Aslı Bora, offers a visual feast and
will be open for visits until October 13.
During the opening of the “Istanbul-Rome Beyond Time” exhibition, Cemal Kalyoncu, Chairman of Kalyon Holding, stated, “As
Kalyon Holding, we have been acting as a responsible brand towards our values and society for 80 years. We strive to protect our
history, values, and cultural heritage to strengthen our unity and togetherness. At Kalyon Kültür, where we host many national
and international artists, we are now proud to present the exhibition of our artist Kenan Işık. We are also proud to have hosted
11 exhibitions and tens of thousands of visitors over the past four years, as well as to have organized 300 events.”
Artist Kenan Işık stated, “In my works, which I embarked on with the idea of refreshing the cultural and historical fabric, com-
mon fate, and richness of both cities, the architectural monuments of Rome and Istanbul await the audience first and foremost. In
my works, which contain memories that do not make anyone feel alone, you can feel the grandeur of Constantine, the courage of
Fatih, and the heartbeat of the Republic.” Aslı Bora, the Artistic Director of Kalyon Kültür and curator of the exhibition, stated,
“Kenan Işık traces the shared DNA of Rome and Istanbul through his works. The artist awakens the memories of the two cities
by scrutinizing the spatial rhetoric of Istanbul and Rome. The exhibition reconstructs the fabric of Istanbul and Rome, which
have been honored as the capitals of three empires, within a mental framework while also raising awareness of spatial losses. This
awareness is a topic that we at Kalyon Kültür always emphasize. As an institution operating under the mission of “Honoring the
past, valuing the future,” “Istanbul-Rome Beyond Time” directs the audience towards an exploration of space and belonging.”
The opening of the “Zamanın Ardında İstanbul-Roma” exhibition, which reflects the unique atmosphere and colorful world of
Istanbul, was attended by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül and his wife Gülden Gül, Şişli District Governor Ahmet Gazi Kaya, Kalyon
Holding Chairman Cemal Kalyoncu, Kalyon Holding Vice Chairman Lütfi Elvan, KMO General Manager Cahit Turhan, Kalyon
Holding Social and Cultural Affairs Committee Chair Reyhan Kalyoncu, Mr. Sabriye Şentop, artist Kenan Işık, and author and
musician Hakan Mengüç.
