         Bugünü Resmetmek (Painting Today)

         Exhibition

         Venue: Yapı Kredi Kültür Sanat
         Address: Tomtom Mahallesi, İstiklal

         Cd. No:161 Beyoğlu İstanbul

“Painting Today”, an exhibition featuring the work of 28 artists who think
and paint with passion, brings together different generations and trends from
the past five years. The exhibition “Painting Today” will be on display at Yapı
Kredi Gallery from May 17 to August 11, 2024. Hosted by Yapı Kredi Culture Arts Publishing, the title “Painting Today” has a dual
meaning: In the first sense, it refers to the approaches to contemporary painting subjects and the methods of depiction. In the second sense,
it emphasizes the current societal atmosphere and the socio-political picture shaped by today’s conditions. In today’s diverse artistic environ-
ment where various media are used, painting continues to open up a rich and fertile intellectual space. The exhibition highlights aspects of
painting that are not market- or populism-focused but are based on a critical foundation, while also reminding us that painting is a medium
that prioritizes imagination. The curatorial process, which considers both subjective and objective balances and progresses with an almost
instinctive approach, evolves into a pluralistic exhibition with its own internal choreography, reflecting the trends of contemporary painting.
Yapı Kredi Culture Arts Gallery Director Didem Yazıcı and Curator Burcu Çimen Shared Their Thoughts on the Exhibition’s Concept: “In
preparing the exhibition program for an art institution, our responsibility involves not only the motivation to create exhibitions on topics that
personally interest us, that we long for, and that we want to see, but also adopting a perspective focused on both the artist and the audience.
We value the visibility of the productions of the artists living here and strive to empathize with what the audience wants to see. With this
motivation, we turned our focus to the painters.”

Artists featured in the exhibition: Ahu Akgün, Figen Aydıntaşbaş, Can Aytekin, Gökhun Baltacı, Taner Ceylan, Antonio Cosentino, Cansu
Çakar, Timur Çelik, Fulya Çetin, Rojbin Ekinci, Eda Gecikmez, Leylâ Gediz, Tayfun Gülnar, Hakan Gürsoytrak, Onur Kılıç, İhsan Oturmak,
Toygun Özdemir, Yağız Özgen, Deniz Pasha, Kirkor Sahakoğlu, Rugül Serbest, Yaz Taşçı, Sevil Tunaboylu, Derya Ülker, Gülnihal Yıldız,
Nalan Yırtmaç, Ecem Yüksel ve Erdoğan Zümrütoğlu. The “Painting Today” exhibition, featuring artists with diverse painting languages
and their works, aims to create a space where viewers can experience the fulfillment of that first magical moment of seeing the paintings.
Curated by Didem Yazıcı and Burcu Çimen, the “Painting Today” exhibition will be on view at Yapı Kredi Culture Arts Gallery from May
         17 to August 11, 2024.

Istanbul’s First Art Nouveau Building, Casa Botter, Hosts the “Solo Bot-
ter: Nuri İyem” Exhibition as Part of the “Botter Exhibitions” Series Curated by Levent Çalıkoğlu The opening of the “Solo Bot-
ter: Nuri İyem” exhibition, the second in the “Botter Exhibitions” series curated by Levent Çalıkoğlu, took place on the evening
of May 22, Wednesday, with the participation of notable figures from the art, politics, business, and media worlds, including IBB
Cultural Heritage Department Head Oktay Özel, IBB Cultural Affairs Director T. Volkan Aslan, and the artist’s son Ümit İyem,
grandson Osman Nuri İyem, and wife Gizem Kahya İyem. The “Solo Botter: Nuri İyem” exhibition, which aims to remind visitors
of the unique artistic personality and works of the renowned painter Nuri İyem, known for his Anatolian women portraits and as
a leading figure of the social realist movement, will be open for free at Casa Botter from May 23 to August 29. Casa Botter, a
significant cultural and artistic landmark on Istiklal Avenue revitalized through the restoration and refunctionalization efforts of
IBB Miras under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, plays a crucial role in the revival of culture and art in Beyoğlu. As part
of the “Botter Exhibitions” series, Casa Botter presents the second exhibition titled “Solo Botter: Nuri İyem” to art enthusiasts.
Nuri İyem’s art focuses on images that create an emotional connection at first glance. His art is filled with signs of his desire
to spread his love for painting across all segments of society. His iconic female faces, which he reinterprets anew each time, the
romantic atmosphere created through color and light in his landscapes, his figurative compositions that symbolize the migration
from village to city during his era, and his loving portraits of lovers who do not lose hope despite all hardships and challenges, all
reflect this passion. Curated by Levent Çalıkoğlu and assistant curated by İrem Büşra Coşkun, this exhibition brings together Nuri
İyem’s characteristic works from different periods of his life, focusing on a quest for essence unique to his geography in every theme
        he explored on canvas.
