If you want to experience an unforgettable journey in the unique nature of the Eastern
Black Sea region, then the Samsun – Artvin route is perfect for you. Starting from the city
center of Samsun, this Black Sea tour offers breathtaking views before reaching the city
center of Artvin, surrounded by lush green mountains. Although the distance between the
two destinations is 550 km, the natural beauty and local flavors of Ordu, Giresun, Trabzon,
and Rize along the way make it impossible to overlook this distance.
On this journey, which mostly follows the coastline, the first loca-
tion to greet you is the charming district of Ünye in Ordu. Here, Finike
you can visit the beautiful examples of Ottoman architecture,
Ünye Houses, and also make a stop at Yalıköy village in Fatsa,
which is famous for its blue-green views, located approximately
20 km ahead.
Continuing your pleasant journey at the Ordu-Giresun road,
which forms perhaps the most picturesque landscapes of the
Samsun-Artvin route, you can travel along the lush green moun-
tains parallel to the sea. When you reach Giresun, don’t miss a
short stroll to Giresun Castle, which awaits visitors on top of
a peninsula with a history of thousands of years, stretching to-
wards the sea.
Afterward, passing through the charming coastal towns of
Giresun for a while, you can reach Trabzon. Of course, don’t for-
get to try the famous Akçaabat köfte (meatballs) accompanied
by the Black Sea breeze before arriving in Trabzon. Once you
reach Trabzon, you may not want to complete the remaining part
of your journey so quickly. Here, you will find many historical
and natural beauties to explore, from Trabzon Castle to Sümela
Monastery, from Ayasofya Museum to lush green plateaus.
For those eagerly anticipating the destination along the Trab-
zon-Rize road, you can continue the journey without taking a
break. As you continue along the coastal strip, breathing in the
sea air, get ready to encounter unique natural beauties such as
Ayder, Gito, Pokut, and Anzer plateaus, Fırtına Deresi (Storm
River), and Kaçkar Mountains National Park during your visit
to Rize.
The final section of the Eastern Black Sea route covers approx-
imately 150 kilometers between Rize and Artvin. After passing
through the districts of Çayeli, Ardeşen, and Fındıklı in Rize,
you will arrive in Hopa, Artvin. Here, before deviating from the
road that leads from the coastline to the city center, you can visit
the rocky Kopmuş Beach located on the green mountain slopes
of Hopa or enjoy the sunset view at Hopa Port. If you wish to
continue your journey towards the heart of nature, you can plan
a new trip towards the plateaus, valleys, and lakes of Şavşat, a
district at an altitude of 1100 meters, before concluding your
journey in the city center of Artvin.
