TSB Emphasizes Transparency and Trust in Claims Processes

Ahmet Yaşar: “Protecting Citizens’ Rights Is Our Priority”

Insurance Associations of Türkiye (TSB) has expressed its full support for efforts to combat unauthorized and illegal entities that exploit claims and compensation processes following traffic accidents. TSB Chairman Ahmet Yaşar emphasized that strong cooperation between the insurance industry and public authorities is critical to ensuring that citizens can access their rights quickly, transparently, and directly.

Insurance Associations of Türkiye (TSB) announced that it is closely monitoring efforts to combat illegal entities that turn citizens’ losses following traffic accidents into a source of profit by exploiting claims and compensation processes, and that it will continue its determined cooperation with the relevant public institutions.

TSB Chairman Ahmet Yaşar stated that the work being carried out decisively by the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK) for some time has reached a significant stage with the judicial proceedings conducted as part of an investigation led by the İstanbul Anadolu Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı.

Emphasizing that the presumption of innocence remains fundamental in ongoing investigations, Yaşar stated that the findings presented once again demonstrate the importance of the joint efforts by public authorities and the industry to prevent the misuse of claims processes.

Yaşar noted that significant and complementary steps have recently been taken in traffic claims management, including the standardization of appraisal calculations in line with the principle of actual loss, Akıllı Eksper Atama Sistemi (the Smart Expert Assignment System), the removal of the additional application requirement for diminished value compensation, the restructuring of claims tracking processes, and the launch of the Alo 193  Ortak Hasar İhbar Hattı .(OHİM).

Stating that these initiatives form part of a broader transformation across the insurance market as a whole, Yaşar said:

“We believe that a strong and reliable insurance market requires a holistic approach to the system. From entry into the sector to strengthening companies’ capital structures and financial resilience; and from the issuance of policies to claims management and ensuring that compensation reaches the rightful beneficiary, it is of great importance that all processes are transparent, auditable, and sustainable. We believe that the structural steps recently taken by SEDDK in line with this approach will make a significant contribution to creating a stronger, more predictable, and more sustainable structure for our industry.”

“Ensuring that citizens can access their rights as quickly and directly as possible is the goal”

Emphasizing that the protection of policyholders and rightful beneficiaries lies at the heart of the efforts concerning claims processes, Yaşar continued:

“A citizen’s accident must not be turned into a commercial opportunity by unauthorized and malicious entities. The fundamental objective here is to reduce the unnecessary chain of intermediaries between the policyholder and the insurance company and to ensure that the rightful beneficiary can receive compensation quickly, transparently, and directly. Combating unauthorized claims consultancy, unlawful use of personal data, and organized attempts at abuse is not merely a matter of concern for insurance companies; above all, it is a matter of protecting citizens’ rights.”

Stating that TSB will continue its cooperation with all relevant institutions, Yaşar said: “We thank our Ministry of Justice, particularly SEDDK, İstanbul Anadolu Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı conducting the investigation, and all public officials involved in the process. We will continue to support efforts that strengthen the transparency, reliability, and sustainability of our industry.”

Yaşar concluded: “Trust is at the heart of insurance. This trust must be established throughout the system, beginning with entry into the sector. While protecting citizens’ rights, protecting the industry’s resources against misuse is also an integral part of this trust. We believe that the structural steps taken under the leadership of SEDDK and the strong cooperation among our public institutions will make a significant contribution to a more reliable, transparent, and sustainable insurance system.”
