In Arter’s fifth exhibition, curated by Melih Fereli as part of the
“Audio TV Series” series, the world premiere of the audio/video installation titled Io’s New Voice, specially commissioned
by the institution for Bill Fontana. The work, which can be seen in Karbon, one of Arter’s performance halls, as of March
10, meets the audience with the valuable contributions of Grundig, which meets all the financing needs for the construction
of the exhibition and the inclusion of the work in the Arter Collection.
The installation titled Io’s New Voice is based on the video and sound recordings of Bill Fontana at various points in the
Bosphorus, also in the Theodosius (Şerefiye) Cistern and the Basilica (Basilica) Cistern from the Byzantine period, some of
them underwater, through his portable recording studio consisting of an 8-channel digital recorder, acoustic microphones,
hydrophones and accelerometers.
This multi-screen and multi-channel installation, realized by the artist within the series titled Acoustical Visions, creates
a sensory and dynamic world consisting of auditory and visual compositions by encompassing the perception of time and
space, thanks to the advanced technical infrastructure of Karbon, one of Arter’s performance halls. The exhibition titled
Bill Fontana: The New Voice of Io can be seen at Arter as of March 10, 2022.
